Filamental is a desktop knowledge management application for Windows and macOS that turns folders of notes and files into interactive 3D knowledge graphs. It lets users visualize connections between information as nodes, clusters, and linked structures.
The application supports both 3D and 2D canvases with automatic arrangement, as well as custom node and connector types for organizing information and defining relationships between different items. Users can create and edit nodes directly within the graph.
Filamental can import Markdown files, links, Wikilink folders, Mermaid diagrams, and other files. It also provides local MCP integration for connecting AI assistants, downloadable AI skills, and one-click AI export for working with external AI tools.
The application uses plain Markdown for storing content and does not require a SaaS backend. Knowledge graphs can also be exported as images or videos for sharing and presentation.
